Alabama State to face another high-powered offense Saturday at Prairie View

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Alabama State turned in its most impressive defensive performance of the season in its 31-13 defeat of rival Alabama in the 71st State Farm Magic City Classic Saturday at Birmingham's Legion Field.

The Hornets basically shutout Southwestern Athletic Conference for three quarters after falling behind 13-10 with 14:40 to play in the second and overcame their struggles against the run, limiting the Bulldogs top-rated rushing attack to 29 yards.

The performance earned them their third victory in The Classic since 2004 and second in the past three years. But more importantly it kept their dreams of returning to the Old Gray Lady and playing for a SWAC championship alive.

With the win Alabama State improved to 5-3 (5-2 in the conference). They're tied for first-place in the eastern division with A&M (6-2, 5-2) and a have a half-game lead on Jackson State (4-4-, 4-2), which owns the head-to-head against them.
