Dillard's stadium renamed, dedicated to former legendary coach Otis Gray

Excerpt:

Fort Lauderdale, FL--A week after Dillard's fourth-quarter mistakes contributed to a 15-point loss at Cypress Bay, the Panthers came out determined to make a statement Thursday night. Dillard scored 23 first-quarter points and rolled to a 45-12 victory over visiting South Broward. The win coincided with a nearly 40-minute halftime ceremony to dedicate Dillard's home field to former coach Otis Gray, who passed away last fall.

Even with the victory, the night still belonged to Otis Gray. The school renamed the stadium Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium. Gray won state titles in 1986 and 1989 during his 13 seasons at the school. ''It's really an honor and a pleasure to be able to come back for such an occasion,'' Gray's son Quinn, who was a backup quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season

"I would have loved for him to be here to be able to accept it himself. ''Under the circumstances, it's just great to be able to come back home,'' said Gray, who played college ball at FAMU. "They showed the respect to my dad for the respect the school and the love he had for the school. "It's a great honor.''

Colts cut QBs Lorenzen, (FAMU) Gray

Former FAMU Rattlers Quinn Gray is out of an NFL quarterback job tonight, with his cut from the Colts Roster.

The Indianapolis Colts reached the NFL’s regular-season limit of 53 today by waiving 20 players, including quarterbacks Jared Lorenzen and Quinn Gray (Florida A&M University), and placing two projected starters on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The waiving of Lorenzen and Gray indicates the team is confident its top two quarterbacks – Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi – will be healthy for the Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears. Manning did not play in the preseason after undergoing surgery on his left knee July 14. Sorgi was held out of the last two preseason games after injuring his right knee.

Former Rattler Gray feeling more comfortable with Colts offense

Former Jaguars starter has several strengths

Finally, the incomprehensible is beginning to make sense.

Finally, the Xs and Os of the Indianapolis Colts offense, along with all the complex variables, are coming into focus for veteran quarterback Quinn Gray. "It's always a learning process," Gray said as he prepared for tonight's preseason game at Carolina. "It's working out now where I'm a little more comfortable being in (meetings) as opposed to when I first got here and my mind was racing a thousand miles an hour.

Former Florida A&M's quarterback Quinn Gray got size (6-3, 254), a strong arm, mobility and experience.

"It was like looking down at Chinese arithmetic. Now, I can look at a script and know where every body's going to be. Now, it's coming along real well."
